Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Erotic – Brown
Authorized Nivada Grenchen retailer
The Antarctic Erotic Brown is a 38 mm Swiss hand-wound watch with a warm brown matt dial and applied indexes carrying beige Super-LumiNova. It is the most vintage-toned dial of the Antarctic Erotic collection, drawn from mid-century field and pilot watch aesthetics, and its beige lume glows warm at night.
Nothing on the dial gives the secret away. Flip the watch and wind the screw-down crown: a modified Soprod P054 movement drives a cam system that converts winding into a mechanical penguin animation, visible only through the flat sapphire caseback. The penguin is a genuine piece of Nivada Grenchen heritage, registered as a patent in 1965 and engraved on Antarctic casebacks of the 1960s and 1970s.
The case follows the 38 mm Antarctic proportions of the 1950s in 316L stainless steel with alternating polished and brushed finishing: 12.45 mm thick, 45 mm lug to lug, a double-domed sapphire crystal and 10 ATM water resistance. A leather strap suits the brown dial, and a stainless steel bracelet is also available. The watch comes in a faux-fur watch roll with a travel pouch.

The story
Nivada introduced the Antarctic in the mid-1950s, built on its rugged Aquamatic. The model is tied to the U.S. Navy's Operation Deep Freeze expedition of 1955–56 under Admiral Richard E. Byrd, and Nivada's American ads called it "the watch that went to the Antarctic." Today's reissue keeps the compact case and vintage dial codes and builds them to current Swiss standards.
Nivada Grenchen was founded in Grenchen, Switzerland, in 1926 and relaunched in 2018 by Guillaume Laidet and Rémi Chabrat. Every model is a reissue from the brand's own archives, not a homage.
