Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Spider Salmon
Authorized Nivada Grenchen retailer
There's nothing quite like the Antarctic Spider. A true conversation starter, this quirky 1970s-inspired design features a sector-style spider dial in a rich salmon tone. Eight crisp vertical baton indexes are linked by radial “legs” converging at the center hence the nickname “Spider.” Sophisticated, eccentric, and graphically hypnotic, it’s a piece that turns heads and breaks conventions.
The story
Nivada introduced the Antarctic in the mid-1950s, built on its rugged Aquamatic. The model is tied to the U.S. Navy's Operation Deep Freeze expedition of 1955–56 under Admiral Richard E. Byrd, and Nivada's American ads called it "the watch that went to the Antarctic." Today's reissue keeps the compact case and vintage dial codes and builds them to current Swiss standards.
Nivada Grenchen was founded in Grenchen, Switzerland, in 1926 and relaunched in 2018 by Guillaume Laidet and Rémi Chabrat. Every model is a reissue from the brand's own archives, not a homage.
